Two Days in October is a documentary that covers the multidimensional story of the battle of Ong Thanh in Vietnam and the student protests at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This film shows examples of different techniques used that assist journalists when telling the story of October, 1967. The way they tell the story of the of the student protest at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the front line of the Vietnam War exposes some of the nuances and demonstrates that the topic was not as simplistic as people viewed it at the time. While using similar techniques to what was used in the documentary “Two Days in October”, Journalists of today can also demonstrate the complexity of multidimensional stories. These are stories that are not black and white, but that look at everyone’s perspective and ideals.
In Dwight MacDonald’s article, “Reading and Thought” he criticizes journalists on their lack of benefit and weakness in their pieces. MacDonald’s argument clashes with Henry Luce’s ideology of “functional curiosity”, the belief of having the “kind of searching, hungry interest in what is happening everywhere”. MacDonald wants to strengthen the practice of reading instead actually giving valuable information.
In the speech “The Man with the Muck-rake” presented by Theodore Roosevelt the topics of investigative journalism, and speaking the truth are discussed. His point was made through a variety of rhetorical techniques including the use of analogy, anaphora, and ethos. The use of these three devices allowed him to convince the audience that investigative journalism, if done by lying, is one of the worst possible evils. When starting the speech Roosevelt compared the present (1906) to the time of George Washington in the late 18th century. His use of analogy illustrates the similarities and differences between the two times, this allows the audience to understand that the problems that exist now have been overcome before.
When reading the IAMFC Code of Ethics and AAMFT Code of Ethics I found that they compare significantly, much more than they contrast. Many of the principals coincide. For example, the topic of multiple relationships is one of the many principles that parallel in many codes of ethics. The IAMFC Code of Ethics encourages family counselors to “avoid whenever possible multiple relationships, such as business, social, or sexual contacts with any current clients or family members” (Section A). Similarly, the AAMFT Code of Ethics also requires that therapists “make every effort to avoid conditions and multiple relationships with clients that could impair professional judgment or increase the risk of exploitation.
This lends the reader to believe there is a lack of current evidence to support Fowler’s claims, therefore, she loses credibility she might have had (Fowler, 2016, p. S9). Furthermore, when Fowler (2016) utilizes evidence such as “the 1926 “suggested code” it leaves her readers confused as to how Fowler has any relevance (p.S9). None of her readers can view her as credible because she never cites any of the current ethics policy. The lack of up to date information ultimately is a detriment to Fowler’s article, thus leaving her audience
Additionally, in paragraph 3, when he says, “Concerns regarding student indebtedness and educational quality are legitimate,” he is acknowledging an opposing argument. At this point, he does not refute this argument in which he should have done. This makes him lose his power in persuasion. Though Smith remains unsupported to his assertion at some point in paragraph 3 and 7, Smith’s article is effective in using facts, examples, appeal to the emotions, logical organization, and stylistic techniques to convince his audience.
I would encourage student media staffs to develop clear policies to help guide them in making journalistically strong, ethically sound decisions. On the other hand, I would maintain effective communication with students to be able to truck what they publish, and control if there is any inappropriate and immature part in their press. Even if they publish a controversial article, I would not restrict them unless it does persecute and injure the others, and damage to school reputation and school community. I would handle all these things according to our school media

The primary motivation that has led me to pursue an advanced degree in bioethics at Columbia University is the direct applicability the field has to my interests in medicine. Today, the physician needs to contend with an increasingly pluralistic and multicultural society that can create pressure to compel him or her to accommodate patients ' diverse values. Each person and each physician who come together in the medical relationship have expectations, hopes, and needs. Only after these are understood and respected can appropriate technical measures be applied. My decision to apply to Columbia University is based on the belief that this program provides the optimal environment for me to investigate ethics as it pertains to medicine to prepare myself for the ethical requirements of a physician.

Luce’s purpose is to provoke thought in the journalist’s minds on what journalism is really about at its core. She adopts a frank and humorous tone to best capture the attention of her intended audience of female journalists. Through, appealing to the ethos, logos, and pathos with flattery, syllogism, and rhetorical questioning to prepare the audience for her message: “the tendency of the American press to sacrifice journalistic integrity in favor of the perceived public demand for sensationalist stories.” In the first paragraph of her speech, Luce assures the audience that “[she is] happy and flattered to be a guest of honor…”
