Meg Whitman is a very successful chief executive officer of eBay and Hewlett- Packard. One of her notable achievements was that she turned eBay from having thirty employees and five million in revenues to over three hundred thirty thousand employees and eight billion in sales. Meg Whitman was considered a transformational leader. She was born as Margaret Cushing on August 4, 1956, in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York. She was the youngest of three children of Hendricks and Margaret Cushing’s. Her father had his own loan business on Wall Street and her mother was a stay-at-home mother. It is an Ohio-based personal care product and household items. During her time at Proctor and Gamble she mastered her skills in the marketing and business organization. She only stayed for few years with this company. Then she met and got married to Harvard medical graduate, Griffith Harsh. He was a neurosurgeon. A few years later they packed up and moved to San Francisco California, where her husband completed his residency and Whitman took a job at Bain and Company, an American global management consulting firm. In 1980 she gave birth to her first child. Her next job was as senior vice president for marketing consumer products for Disney. Whitman participated in launching the company’s new theme stores outside of the United States but began searching for a job in New England because her husband was offered the post of chief of neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She found a job with a Stride Rite in Lexington, Massachusetts and became the president for the company. During her time at Stride Rite, Whitman was in charge of the revival of its vintage Keds sneaker. Her next job for a year was as president and chief executive officer with Florists Transworld Delivery (FTD). She continued her career path with a toy company Hasbro’s toy company; she oversaw the preschool toys division. It was a decision that fascinated her two sons. During her time with Hasbro she also successfully launched another huge concept, Mister Potato Head. In 1997, Whitman was approached by a recruiting firm for an internet auction company which was looking for the new powerful leader. They needed an individual who can help to start and develop the online company AuctionWeb, now known as eBay. She had never heard of the company before.
