Speaking up takes courage and trust, Even though Melinda spoke up, she was betrayed after that. After Melinda told her friend, Rachel what had happened and who did it, she was betrayed. As stated (pg. 184) “”Liar!” she stumbles out of her chair and grabs her books off the table. “I can't believe you. You're jealous. You're a twisted little freak and you're jealous that I'm popular and going to the prom and so you lie to me like this.” This conveys how even when Melinda spoke up about what happened at the party, Rachel betrayed her again. She betrayed Melinda with her trust, and with their friendship.
