It is common knowledge that the internet is full of useful information, nevertheless many posts are not accurate. Everyone can publish whatever nonsense they think about and make it seem like true facts. For instance, memes communicate all types of messages that half of the time are not true, but nonetheless have become very popular among the different social networks. One meme that caught my attention was the one attached to this document, which says: “with 18 million Americans unable to find a full-time job, congress should stop awarding 1 million lifetime work permits to foreign workers every year”. There are approximately one million work permits awarded to foreign workers per year. Nevertheless, the meme portraits it as something utterly unacceptable, when in reality some of these permits actually benefit the country. There are several reasons why an immigrant can get a work permit, also known as Green Card. The reasons being: through a job offer, self-petition, special categories of jobs and investment. This last one, is given to investors or entrepreneurs who are making investments in an enterprise that creates U.S. jobs. According to a The New York Times there were around 5.3 million Americans working for a foreign company in 2009, which is a significant cipher for the U.S. labor force. This, refers to job openings that cannot be filled because the people are not qualified. According to the labor department there are more than 4.5 million job openings in the U.S. that have not been filled because the applicants does not have the necessary skills for the job. In fact, the groups with first and third highest unemployment rates are teenagers (from 16 to 19) and 25 year old people and over, with less that a high school diploma. These are the most unskilled groups, which is probably why they present more trouble finding jobs. To tie everything up, there are plenty of unfilled jobs that the 10 million Americans could occupied if they were skilled; therefore, the problem is not only that immigrants are taking away jobs from Americans, but also that a large percentage of the people looking for full-time jobs are not qualified to fill them. I made two new memes to correct the one I previously chose. Each of these refer to one of the arguments I made to prove the first meme was wrong. I consider the new memes are accurate because they are made with real numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statics. Likewise, I included the positive aspects of the Green card, contrary to what was implied in the first meme. Finally, I looked for more perspectives to the problem of unemployment and how it could be
