Memento and Rashomon have some similarities and some differences, in Memento the film was told in backwards to forwards. In the Rashomon was in chronological order. Both films are told in flashbacks, they are deceptively complex story. Both films show a good example of a story that is not what it first appears to be. One major difference of the both films is that Rashomon is a film allows you to come up with your own ending, while in Memento the viewers understand the whole plot. We figure what going on. On Rashomon the viewer comes up with your own truth. Both films tell a story of a flashback from a murder scene.

The main motif in Rashomon is the unreliable narrator. We found out that the woodcutter is unreliable at the end of the film, he steals the dagger of the dead samurai. In the film Memento, everyone ends up using Leonard as a tool. Everyone pretends to help Leonard, but they are helping thereself personal wants. What is unique about these films is memento tells a story from a person that has memory loss while in Rashomon there is so much memory.
The memento is told through a nonlinear structure, Whereas the ordering patterns of Rashomon is found on the repetition of a life story and of one event, told through multiple narrators.
Rashomon is a very interesting film in the way Akira Kurosawa told the story. What is important is Kurosawa's way of storytelling. Akira filming style forces the viewers to deal with the corrupt reality discussed in the story. Akira wants to show about nature and reality. Truth is objective without finding more information to support about it. What if there is more than one truth. Like in the film there is four perceptive of the murder, but who is telling the truth.
