The purpose to why I write this memo is to propose a research report on assisting promising young distance runners in making the transition from collegiate to professional running. I want to thank you, Mrs. Schwartz, to agreeing to be my tech reader as we discussed in the beginning of the term. As a reminder, you will provide feedback on my proposal and on the rough draft of my technical report and will also evaluate my final report at the end of the term. Again, I truly do appreciate you for setting aside some of your time to serve as a resource, as I conduct my research and help find leads to helpful information as I write my report.

• What are the physiological aspects from a college athlete to a professional athlete?
• What are the dynamic differences between coaching a professional athlete and a collegiate athlete?
• How do professional athletes fear up for a race in the long run? (what do they build up first? Endurance, flexibility?)
• When does speed work become important? (Does it depend on the athlete?)
• How much attention do they pay to warming up, cooling down, stretching, etc on a daily basis?
• What kind of financial cost do professional athletes encounter?
• What is the difference between a race agent and a commercial agent?
• What are the main ways that track and field athletes make a living?
The action I hope to persuade my audience to take by the end of this report is to make informed decisions to become professional long distance athletes. More specifically, I would like my readers (which are aspiring young distance runners) to take the information provided by the examples and understanding given by the 26 professional athletes and coaches interviewed within the report.
