Memories make-up emotions and give significance for emotions . The Giver , by Lois Lowry, the absence of memories leads to lack of knowledge . First , memorie make-up emotions, and give us the significance of understanding . Second , experiences lead to good or bad choices . Last , memories provide wisdom enough to know what’s right or wrong . Memories make-up emotions, and give us the significance of understanding . Firstly , there is no pleasure without pain. This can be seen when the giver transmitted the memory of the sled to Jonas . Before and after he flew off . (The Giver p.80 ) The Giver transmitted the memory to Jonas without any pain at the beginning just joy . After that he transmitted to him the memory of pain and that’s when he lost control of the sled and flew off . Secondly , importance of understanding loss and grief . This is demonstrated when the Giver says, “ I started you with memories of pleasure , my previous failure gave me the wisdom to do that .” ( The Giver p. 85 ) …show more content…
The Giver’s emotions are from the memories he experienced , which also gives us an idea that he is wise enough and knows what’s wrong and what’s right . Memories lead to good and bad choices . To begin with , making choices relates to experience . This occurs when the Giver says , “ It’s choosing that’s important , isn’t it ?” (The Giver p.98) It states for us that everything happens is a result in our choices or decisions in what to do . In addition , sacrifice plays a big role in choices. This is shown when , Fiona risks losing her job and sacrifices for her friendship with Jonas. She tells him where gabriel was . Fiona risked losing her job to help Jonas and for the sake of their friendship . Choices are just an outcome based out of past memories
