It seems that all of the children’s memories are tarnished. The children are not sure they can tell the difference between what they thought they had experienced and what has been shared with them. The central idea is that current events can cause a person to reexamine the past.
“Shifty- Shifre. She could remember that.” Pg. 47. But, even though they’re small details in the book, they do create a huge theme. Since remembering is a huge contribution, there are many other parts of the story where remembering is a factor.
Memories can express many emotional times and events in your life, but it’s terrifying when you can’t remember anything at all. In the novel Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf, the main character, Allie, goes through her life after a tragic accident where her boyfriend, Trip, drove off a cliff in his truck. Allie was found near the cliff but she has no memory of the accident. Allie is forced to return to her life before the accident with the exception of having Trip. Allie experienced some traumatic events that influenced changes in herself as well as some people, some being Trip’s death/the accident, having to go back to school, and having Blake there for her every step of the way. .
A “Great Being” from The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is a Darry. Darry is a “Great Being” because he/she shows the trait of being selfless. For instance, you will now introduce the first example of your character trait #1 of your Great Being from the novel. “He thought Darry worked too hard anyway. I did, too.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the main character Ponyboy makes many important decisions, some poor while others smart. A prime example of this is when he chose to attend the rumble, even though he was stressed out and not in the right state of mind. The only reason that he even felt compelled to do it was because he felt like it was a way to get back at the socs, and honor his friend and fellow greaser, Johnny. He even said “ RIght then the most important thing in my life was helping us whip the socs” (Hinton 134). As all choices do it had a consequence, but this one was far worse than he could have imagined.
S.E. Hinton is known for astounding everyone with her book The Outsiders which she wrote when she was 15 years old and was still in high school. Joseph Delaney’s The Last Apprentice Revenge of the Witch contains multiple references to memories Thomas encounters, in which readers can recognize the “Memory Moment” signpost which reveals the effect of remembering experiences to help him in the future. At many points in the novel Thomas remembers moments of escaping Mother Malkin and other witches, this brings him awareness of his surroundings and bravery when needed most. For example he recalls this memory when he tells the Spook about the death of Mother Malkin, so he is aware of the issue. “The memory came back, sharp and clear, of the old witch grabbing my boot and trying to drag herself out of the water”(200). When Thomas needs to remember the dangers of some creatures where he lives.
The mood is dark and heavy, corresponding to the plot. Flashback- a vivid memory of an event that happened in the past. Quote: “The letter written by Bass, directed to Parker and Perry, and which was deposited in the post office in Marksville on the 15th day of August, 1852, arrived in Saratoga in the early part of September.”
What would you do if the one thing, that made a group stay together left? The group would be able to stay together after losing Johnny because, even though they lost a loved one, they would still do anything for one another like backing each other up without a second thought. While reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the death of Johnny formed a question about whether or not the gang would be able to stay together. The death of Johnny made me believe that the bond of the gang was stronger then before, with them even choosing to back up each other, even if it means danger to themselves or helping one another when in need of some assistance, and finally realizing that they were all they had left for family and friends. The gang had been stronger together
Everyone faces struggles in their teenage years. For some, it may be drama within their friend group. For others, it can be more serious, like getting in trouble with the law. No matter how small the struggle is, it is a huge deal to the person struggling. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy, the main character, faces many struggles; these struggle teach him lessons, such as he is not the only person with problems, fighting and violence cannot simply solve everything, and, most importantly, he must stay true to himself.
There are also the things that seem really important but we often forget about them. The first memories that pops into my head when I think about memories is when I picked out my first pig. His name was Champ and he was black with white around his front shoulders, kind of like a half oreo. I could walk him anywhere, and we would go through the field, and in the front yard, and through the garage, my parents were surprised when they saw me with him. To be honest I picked him out because he was cute, and he was probably one of the best pigs I’ve ever had.
Memories are one of the most important parts of life, there is no true happiness without the reminiscence of pain or love. This concept is portrayed in "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. The story tells of a 12-year old Jonas, who lives in a “utopian” society, where all bad memories are destroyed to avoid the feeling of pain. Jonas becomes the receiver, someone who receives good and bad memories, and he is transmitted memories of pain and pleasure from The Giver and is taught to keep the secret to himself. The author shows one should cherish memories, whether it be good or bad, as they are all of what is left of the past, and we should learn from it as to better ourselves in the future.
How “The Outsiders” written by S.E Hinton is coming of age novel During life, people will go through tragic experiences, difficult period of time and pressured by the society around them that eventually their innocence will fade with age. This can be clearly shown in the novel “The Outsiders” (written by S.E Hinton) in which the characters who are living in an area (East side of Oklahoma) full of gang society and violence;….Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade and the rest of his friends and siblings are forced to mature and grow up quicker and earlier than most of the average people due to the traumatic/tragic experiences that they had to face during their everyday conflict between “The Socs” (their rival social group). First of all, before Ponyboy Curtis had met the two girl Socs in the cinema (Sherry Valance and Marcia), he had thought that every person who are a member of their rival’s social group were very wealthy, but very threatening towards The Greasers.
When you think of family you might think of adults and their children, or kids who lost their parents but are still related to each other. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton tells otherwise. It shows that even if you are not related, you can still be family; you can still have love and affection for each other. In the book, there is a contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. There is connection shown between the greasers from the Socs in the blue Mustang to Johnny dying in the hospital not wanting to see his mother.
Memories are a key aspect in life because they affect our behavior, help us recall events that have happened in life, and last help us learn. Furthermore memories are the events we have experienced in life and due to these experiences they take a toll on a person’s behavior. We may perceive a person has negative or pessimistic but without knowing them we can not assume their personality.
