Many young kids read books such as Judy Bloom, which teaches life lessons hidden behind the story of a young girl's life and the many obstacles she faces. When I was a kid, I read books like The Adventures of Captain Underpants. My most distinct memory of reading has to be that I would almost always take a book with me when I took a bath. I suppose my mom loved the fact that all she had to do was give me a book and tell me to go take a bath and I would disappear for hours. My favorite book to read was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Although I was only around 8 years old, I was determined to read them all. I would always make it half-way through the book and I would lose interest, mainly because the books were far above my reading level.When I started elementary school, our school system had a reading program that rewarded students with AR points for each book the student had read. …show more content…

After reading a book, the students would get on the computer and take a test that answered thorough questions about each chapter. If the students passed the test with higher than 80, then they would receive so many points put towards their account. At the end of each quarter the students with the highest amount of AR points got to go on a field trip, or out to a fancy dinner. I never really liked the program itself, because we were required to read a certain amount of books each month. I was a slower reader and almost always fell short of the quota, therefore never being qualified. Because of me not meeting the quota and getting a low score it really demotivated me. Which is why I started to lose interest in reading and would get easy books just to get a good score. When I got to Jr. high we had to pick out our own book
