Summary of Major Ideas Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn article “Men Have Forgotten God” talks about how wars are started. In the article he talks about how wars are started because people have forgotten about God. He discusses how people are turning to atheism and raising the next generation to be atheist. The start of the article discusses the Russian Revolution and how the start of the war was because God has been forgotten by them. People have turned to ungodly ways of thinking and fighting because of this. He points out that the lack of God in people lives is influencing them to start using nuclear and other disastrous weapons. The main point of this article is to convince people that atheism is the start of the majority of wars.

One can understand why he is coming from this point of view because without God people can become greedy and selfish causing them to not care about people and start wars over unprofessional circumstances, but not all wars are started over religious issues. Rabbi Alan Lurie wrote an article for Huffington post called “Is Religion the Cause of Most Wars?” it says, “In their recently published book, “Encyclopedia of Wars,” authors Charles Phillips and Alan Axelrod document the history of recorded warfare, and from their list of 1763 wars only 123 have been classified to involve a religious cause, . . .” Looking at that list there is not that many wars based on religious issues and they are not all based on
