Meniscal Tears Research Paper

133 Words1 Pages
Meniscal tears are a common orthopaedic pathology. Selecting the correct treatment can be challenging and involves multiple factors. Knowledge and understanding of the anatomical structure and vascularity of the meniscus as well as the pattern of tear is important. Evidence shows that non-operative treatment can be successful especially in the short term and in the presence of osteoarthritis. Partial meniscectomy can preserve some of the function of the meniscus and is beneficial for tears within the avascular white-white zone. Meniscal repair has grown in popularity and boasts excellent long-term results. This should be considered for all repairable tears provided the patient can comply with the post-operative rehabilitation. Figure Figure22
