Among the reasons for deciding to apply for a mental health nursing course, my 'why' and motivation to pursue a career as a mental health nurse was experiencing the loss of my best friend unfortunately due to suicide. Such a life-changing loss deepened my existing drive to want to help people recover and heal from mental health struggles and traumatic experiences.
The human mind is so complex and a phenomenon that I find intriguing and love to learn about, particularly human mental processes, mental health disorders and behaviours. I believe I am suitable for this course because, alongside having a passion for helping the community to cope with mental illnesses and my compassionate, nurturing characteristics. The practical skills learned through conducting and evaluating various scientific experiments, knowledge gained through the combined course curriculum of the courses studied along with my passion and ambition to succeed as a professional mental health nurse can be a fresh perspective in the clinical society of mental health nursing and I could be a great hand in the community of Northern Ireland being able to help those suffering from mental illnesses. Two skills that I possess that will lead me during this course are that I am compassionate and empathetic. Having worked in retail and food service environments all my working life, I have dealt with a massive range of different customers and believe I have strengthened my ability to be compassionate and empathetic with people and understand how to deal with people in a kind but professional
