My previous research experiences at both the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute have cultivated my deep interest in neuroscience. Through the Integrated Program in Neuroscience, I will build on these experiences in Dr. Srour’s lab at the MUHC Glen Site, by working on focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) and intractable childhood epilepsy.
Over this past summer, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Peter McPherson at the MNI on Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (Figure 1). Our research focus was to identify the critical …show more content…

Jamie Near’s lab at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute through a research exchange program organized by the Department of Physics at Dawson College. I programmed in MATLAB using the Unix operating system to investigate the accuracy of computer simulated NMR spectra of glutamate and GABA generated by a 3-tesla MRI scanner. It was fascinating to see ideas being put into motion while presenting at the Douglas Institute’s first annual Undergraduate Research Expo. These experiences strengthened my analytical skills and enhanced my capacity to think critically while bridging the gap between the theoretical and practical world.
