The Manila Electric Company, famously known as Meralco, is considered as the Philippines’ largest distributor of electrical power. They supply electrical power to Metro Manila, National Capital Region, industrial estates and suburban and urban areas of the adjacent provinces. Their mission is to provide their consumers the best quality in energy, products and services because they have this belief that energy is significant to help certain communities survive from the poverty. The company’s famous slogan, “Ang Liwanag ng Bukas” says it all. When these factors are all in good status, the company would be able to have business expansion. Among the requirements that a firm must have are massive infrastructure to deliver utilities to their customers. This usually requires issuing a large amount of debt to cover the costs of this infrastructure. Electrical companies must build power lines and power stations. Building competing infrastructures would be inefficient and unwieldy, so governments allow natural monopolies in such areas. These natural monopolies are often subject to stringent regulations, including regulations as to how much they can charge their customers for services. The firm is still in the second stage of development cycle which is the Growth Stage because it has gained its name and position in the market which indicates that the demand of the consumer is still growing and still has the stable financials over time. When a good economy exists, revenues and sales are generally higher. On the other hand, during the economic downturn, the sales and revenues will eventually decline. Since, the stock price of the company has been changing lately, it depicts that the economy of the Philippines has also been changing as time goes by. To conclude, the economy status has played a major part in the financials of the company. Since the goods and services offered in this kind of industry is for a day-to-day consumption, an affordable cost for the consumers is presented. Also, the demand for this kind of industry is high and considered as one of the basic needs nowadays, its cost is not expensive for the consumers.
