RELB 103A Anthony Carpino RR 2 Thus Says the Lord, “Messages from the Book of Obadiah” Summary The topic, that is being dealt with in this chapter is about the Book of Obadiah, which talks about a prophet Obadiah, according to the Babylonian Talmud, who was a servant to King Ahab (1 Kings: 18:3-6). Obadiah, in Hebrew means “worshipper” or “Lords servant” also risked his own life to protect the prophets of God. This chapter goes on to also state, that Edom, who ruled his kingdom was retributive, this is where God means that he will make the punishment fit the crime. Edom was also punished by the Lord was because of his arrogance, and pride because of the inaccessible location, that the city of Sela was built on. The author states, that the Lord will bring Edom down no matter how great his pride, because, as biblical books teach, pride usually goes before the fall (Prov. 16:18). The arguments are valid, because he uses passages from the Book of Obadiah to back up the argument. Yes, to me they are strong, and convincing. The arguments are acceptable; to me because they make a very good point, that if you are not arrogant to other people, you may get the same treatment as the people you put down. Other people may react the writing as extreme, but I find it excellent. If I were to write it, I would write it in a similar way, because it goes in chronological order, of the way the Book of Obadiah, was written. Yes, I agree with the way, that passages of the Bible were written in the book, because it was set up in a way that flowed very well.
