Metallica, Origins and Tribulations Metallica is one of the biggest selling acts in American history. They have gone from nothing to being one of the most well-known metal bands. As of 2015, Metallica has written and recorded 151 songs. From the newspaper ad that brought them all together, to their major achievements over the last 35 years, Metallica is still writing and recording new music. James Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963, in Southern California becoming Metallica's lead singer. Lars Ulrich, was born on December 26, 1963, in Gentofte, Denmark and is the band’s drummer. Two years went by and then they asked Robert Trujillo to become the fourth member. Robert was born in Santa Monica, California, on October 23, 1964.
Despite all the ups and downs in the band’s history, they have been very successful. Metallica has released a total of twelve albums; including their newest one, which was released on November 18, 2016. They have won a total of eight Grammy awards. Six of those grammy awards were for “Best Metal Performance”. One of these was for “ Best Hard Rock Performance”. The remaining Grammy was for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance”. Metallica's self-titled album or better known by fans as The Black Album, has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since it was released on August 12, 1991.
Metallica’s members have gone through a lot. Throughout the 35 years they have been together, they have accomplished so much. For example, they have eight total Grammys, and six of them are for “ Best Metal Performance”. Also they have sold over 30 million copies of their self titled album, which is also known as The Black Album. From just getting started by a newspaper ad, to losing band members for various reasons and adding members, to the delay of James going into a rehabilitation center, to just having released a new album.
