Jack started the business by selling grocery items from a stall situated in East London. The first Tesco store was opened in Burnt Oak, North London in 1919. Tesco became a private limited company in 1932. Tesco enters the stock market for the first time in 1747. Today the market capitalization of the company is around 20.5 billion pounds and is graded as the 28th largest company. Tesco has 6,784 stores in different parts of UK and US (Myers, 2004, p. 1). In 1994, the company starts Tesco, which is a chain of small-size stores. They have a traditional operation style and are located in small towns, city centres and fuel stations. A buyer has to select from the limited brands of each product available in the stores (Palmer, 2005, p. 23). The home brand purchases and top-brands are both limited in numbers at the stores because of which the customers often feel restricted and confused.

Cost
It used to be said that cost of the products at the Tesco express stores are higher as compared to the other types of outlets (Wrigley, 2000, p. 105). The reason behind this is the small sizes of the stores. There is less space in these stores because of which only limited products can be placed.
