Jose Gonzalez AP English IV Mrs. Staten March 13, 2015 Links Between Music Education and Success For years people have been arguing whether music education is beneficial for the students who participate in these classes, or if the students that are already successful academically choose to take these classes. Recent studies have shown that not only has musical participation directly correlated with student’s academic abilities, but it is also shown that the longer the student participates in these classes the higher the success rate of these students. Studies have also shown that starting from a young developmental age can cause superbly strong advantages to the child's success later on in life. These studies were used to find not only the educational values of music education but also just the life values. Not only was it shown that people who take music classes longer have a higher graduation rate, GPA, and attendance rate. It has also been shown that people who are taking music classes in the Metro Nashville area also have a lower average of having discipline issues. In this study that was done over four years it was also shown that the children who took these music classes also had a better attitude and less behavioral at both home and school.
