The G.O.A.T. The (Greatest Of All Time) debate has been a popular argument ever since the National Basketball Association (NBA) was organized in 1946. Many former stars have been considered but after the Cavaliers won the Championship in 2012, there have been two forerunners in the debate: Michael Jordan and LeBron James. These two athletes have dominated their eras and are considered worthy of this title. Throughout LeBron's career, he has obtained many unbelievable achievements and some people are now placing him above Michael Jordan as the G.O.A.T., but that is not accurate. Additionally, Michael Jordan's defensive achievements are just as impressive because: he was named the 1988 Defensive Player Of The Year; he is a 3-time Steals Leader; and he was elected to the All-Defensive 1st Team 9 times (Greer Jordan 5). Michael Jordan has been awarded these incredible accolades and he has won each of them more times than Lebron James, even though Lebron has played 5 more years than Jordan. Some people may say the only reason Michael Jordan thrived so well in the 90s is because of the differences between styles from Jordan's time and modern-day basketball; but if LeBron was a better defender, he would have won at least one DPOY and more than six All-Defensive 1st Teams in his 19 years in the NBA. Michael Jordan’s 102.7 defensive rating and his 13 total defensive accolades, including his DPOY, prove that Jordan is a superior defender and surpasses the efforts of LeBron James. Finally, due to his playoff success and achievements during the Finals, Michael Jordan deserves to be recognized as the NBA G.O.A.T.
