As of recently, college prices have been a major talking point of elections. It is found that many people do not have the opportunity to go to college, not because they don’t want to, but because of the enormous price of a college education. There are so many different people with different opinions on fixing this problem whether it be, everyone gets free education, only specific people groups get free education to there is no need for free education. There is such a wide array of views, but what most people agree on is that something needs to be done to help more Americans get the opportunity to attend college.

Petrilli believes that college expenses should not be the first priority. He believes that k-12 education should be invested in first. He discovered that many high school students go to college and continue to take remedial high school courses because they are not ready and then they never get past those courses. Petrilli believes that if we invest in high school reform then these students would be better prepared for college and will leave college with less debt and the graduation rate at colleges would drastically increase. She believes that, “grants covering the traditional “tuition, room and board” financial aid package...since a lack of housing, food security and child care will derail academic progression.” She believes this is important because in order for students to succeed in college, they need to know that they have a chance and can handle it without all of the financial stress. Edgecombe believes that education costs are way too high, but at this point she wants readers to just worry about the students that wouldn't even be able to go to college without aid over those that are just struggling a little but will eventually pay off their debt. She believes this would be effective at giving students a better ability to graduate and believes that overall college graduation rates would increase as well of the number of students going to colleges. This is also effective because if would eventually cause the United States to have a higher amount of college educated citizens and help with the progression of many things like technology, agriculture, etc. and it would increase the amount of people with higher paying jobs so that they can get out of the lower class at some
