In the articles titled "The Extraordinary Science Of Addictive Junk Food”( by Michael Moss and the article "Escape from the Western Diet"(2008) by Michael Pollan both discuss the growing issue of unhealthy eating leading to medical problems. Both articles discuss ways to improve eating habits to decrease the amount of disease in America. In Michael Moss's article, he is presenting a a slide show to the C.E.O's of some of the largest American food companies(494). Moss shows in his presentation that "more than half of American adults were now considered overweight, with nearly one-quarter of the adult population-40 million people-clinically defined as obese"(473). Moss showed that he believed companies wanted customers to get hooked to their food by making a comparison to cigarettes(474). He goes on in his article to explain how unhealthy eating is affecting many Americans. He states "one in three adults is considered clinically obese, along with one in five kids, and 24 million Americans are afflicted by type 2 diabetes, often caused by poor diet, with another 79 million people having pre-diabetes"(476-477).
