Tayler Meneguin Mr. Dittmar American History Book Report October 13, 2014 The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara was during the Gettysburg battle. The Gettysburg battle had taken place July 1, 1863. This battle was one of the largest battles during the Civil War. There were many casualties not just in that battle but the other battles had many aswell. The Civil War was one of the biggest battles in the history of America. This war had taken place between the Union and the Confederates. They both had their own opinions on what slavery was, but the Civil War was not just about ending slavery for the United States. In Pennsylvania near where the battle of Gettysburg was held. The Southern spy had spotted the Union troops extremely close to the base of where the Confederates were stationed. The spy, Harrison had rode back to the camp of the Confederates late that nightt. A general who was not familiar with Harrison was not sure if he should let him proceed to Lee’s tent. After a long convincing speech he was escorted to Lee. After informing Lee on what was going on one of the troops had convinced Lee to move into a town called Gettysburg. But before they could head West to Gettysburg 120 men had arrived with the twentieth Maine Regiment. Soon after they were introduced to Chamberlain the army had started to move into the town of Gettysburg. The most horrific part of the book but also the climax was the battle. The afternoon of June 1st the battle had began. Chamberlain's men built barricades to protect them from the Union Army. As the battle had began the asked the Regiment members if the were still against fighting for the Confederates, half agreed to fight leaving 3 unarmed.
