In the first book of The Michael Vey Series; Michael Vey: Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul Evans. One true theme to this story is evident and that is When things are looking dispirited, make sure to look for hope in all places, because having hope and trust will get you through your toughest problems. This proves to be true when Michael is on his last stroke of luck when he finds his true friends who are also electric, like him. Not to mention that his mom and his electric friends are kidnapped and he has to find hope in his once bullies. Starting with the beginning of the book Michael had been born, and was chosen to be on trial for a clinical electronic drug that was meant to find anything wrong with the new born babies. As each individual grew up only 17 out a decent number survived and were slowly being hunted down because this electric had given each one powers that they could use. " I get bullied like you... That secret is the reason we moved to Idaho in the first place" (Evans 4-6). This was shown when Michael had spent his whole life on the run and getting bullied until he moved to Idaho where he had met his best friend Ostin. Micahel found sanctuary in his best friend, this was because he finally found someone to explain his problems to. This makes Michael uneasy knowing why they took his mom and also knowing that they had taken her because of him. He did not know what to do, whether to sit and wait until his mother might come back or get tired of waiting and go searching for her. As soon as he pieced it together, he knew where to search in order to find his mother but this would take the help of fellow bullies. “We have no other choice, he can drive and we have no one else”(Evans). This just shows that Michael had hope that his previous bullies would not turn his back on him when he needed them the most. These bullies had made Michael's life unbearable when they would shove him into his own locker and treat him like nothing more than dirt. Then when Michael uses his powers to stand up for himself, he is found in a parking lot where the most popular girl in the school saw him use his electric powers. Michael quickly retreats home in hopes that Taylor had not seen him, but is very surprised when Taylor invites him to her house to further discuss what she saw. “As soon as school is over Taylor catches up with Michael, then they go to her house where Taylor tells Michael her secret too, that she can also use electricity in the form of mind reading”(Evans).
