Please welcome Michelangelo as we interview him about his life…….. Michelangelo: I am going to highlight some interesting facts about my life and perhaps a few unknown. I was born on 6 March, 1475. I was one of the greatest sculptors. At an early, age I lost my mother and as a result grew up in a stone-cutter family in Settignano town. I had a keen interest of art and left the school to nourish my wish for creativity. I preferred copying the painting of churches than study. Can you tell us about your life as a teen? Michelangelo :When I was a teen, I was sent to live and study in the home of Lorenzo de’ Medici, then one of the most important art patrons in all of Europe. My steady hand with a chisel and paintbrush soon made me the envy of all his fellow pupils. A young rival named Pietro Torrigiano grew so enraged at my superior talent that he walloped me in the nose, leaving it permanently smashed and disfigured. Michelangelo: I was much loved; my nickname that developed during my lifetime was “Il Divino.” As a direct translation, it means “the divine.” My work was loved by everyone in every class, culture, and demographic. My work was revered back then during my lifetime and it is still revered today. Not bad for a young boy who couldn’t focus on his schoolwork because I wanted to paint instead. Michelangelo: In closing, something not many know about me, is that I really hate to take a bath, I hate it just about as bad as a cat.
