Michelangelo was considered a supreme and revered sculptor, painter, architect and poet of his time. Although he had many notable quotes and used to this day, one his most famous is, "If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all." The context and meaning of this famous quote can be perceived in many ways. The relevance of his work continues throughout the art world to this day. Michelangelo, in full Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born March 6, 1475, in Caprese, Republic of Florence, Italy and died February 18, 1564 in Rome. (Gilbert, Creighton E.) Uncommonly known, at infancy Michelangelo’s mother grew ill and at this time he was placed with a stonecutter’s family in Florence. Because Michelangelo was and is still revered as a master of his time, many could and probably do use him as a comparison to what they could or will become in this life. Whether it be an artist, President, soldier, or a teacher. Reaching a level of mastery can be measured based on a degree, multiple degrees, years of experience or knowledge passed down and learned from a previous master of a skillset. Michelangelo’s work, even the unfinished, is awe inspiring. Once reading, learning and trying to understand who he was and what he achieved, it is understood why he has influenced so many.
