Michelangelo is a great renaissance artist who left many masterpiece. I chose this topic because I am interested in Michelangelo. When I was at 7th grade, I read a book about Michelangelo so this is the topic that I am most interested in and the topic that I know a lot. I read the book both in English and Korean and the book mainly discusses Michelangelo`s famous art work, like Sistine Chapel and it deeply goes in to the book and the book analyzes Sistine Chapel. I`m interested in Sistine Chapel because I am a Christian and there are many religious figures in this painting so I recognize many figures. His most famous art work is the Sistine Chapel and the Last Judgment. Sistine Chapel was required by pope Julius II to change from sculpture to art painting. At first, it was pope Sixtus IV required many other artists like Botticelli , to draw the painting and decorate it. However after Julius II became a new pope, he forced Michelangelo to complete the Sistine Chapel. However Michelangelo refused to do because he saw himself as a sculptor, not a painter. As a result, Pope Julius II forced Michelangelo to paint. Michelangelo spent 4 years painting it and he got eye problem because of working too hard every day. It was required by a pope to draw, however the drawing was 100% composed of Michelangelo`s imagination. It is a painting that has over 300 figures and the height of the ceiling is 65 foot. Michelangelo`s painting is on the curved place and it is not on the side of the walls. The Sistine Chapel is in the Vatican Palace and the painting is on the ceiling and on the walls and ceiling. The chapel was named by Pope Julius II, the first one who suggested this idea. However, he said that the painting doesn`t look good when the painting is looked from outside. The ceiling is the highest part of the building. This part is the highlight of the whole painting. There are 9 scenes from Genesis. Genesis tells how was Adam created by the god. For example, his painting, The last judgment transcends the concepts of biology and ideology. He painting shows realism. He drew realistic human figures with muscles so it looks more realistic. Also, the faces of the figures are realistic and their emotions look like human. Michelangelo`s paintings were used to study anatomy. Also the modern art studied anatomy and human body from Michelangelo`s painting. By this painting, it seems like Michelangelo studied biology, because he drew human body in details. The painting also shows saints and angels so this also affected modern art, modern art world started to draw religious paintings. Also he influenced the precision of the line and the color. He used different forms of painting to express his thoughts in the picture, many modern artists are trying to follow this idea.
