Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born March 6th, 1475, in Caprese, Italy and he passed away on February 18th, 1564. Michelangelo was an Italian sculptor, painter and also an amazing poet and writer. Michelangelo started enjoying painting at age thirteen and he became very successful. Growing up Michelangelo was cared for by his father and his mother, until one day, when Michelangelo was six years old, his mother passed away. A little before His mother passed away, he was cared for by a different family besides his own. Michelangelo loved enjoying God’s creation and all the things around him. Michelangelo was one of five crazy boys. Michelangelo’s mother passed away when he was six and consequently, was raised by his father, Ludovico di Leonardo di Buonarotto Simoni. At age thirteen Michelangelo understandably was more interested in watching painters at nearby churches then doing school, so one exciting day Michelangelo got permission from his father to quit boring grammar class and go explore art. His father considered this pursuit below the family's social status. However, Michelangelo had the privilege of pursuing art during his life. In 1492 Michelangelo moved to Bologna and there he continued carving and painting. Michelangelo’s adventure had only just begun as he started to paint and carve! Michelangelo’s art was characterized by Biblical figures such as Creation and the fall of man. A few things Michelangelo was popular for was the carving of David, The Pieta sculpture, and also the painting of the Sistine Chapel. It took Michelangelo two years to sculpt David; it also took two years for him to sculpt the “Pieta” and a little over four years to paint the Sistine Chapel.
