In Michelle Obama’s, “Remarks to the NAACP National Convention,” she explains that obesity in children is an extremely serious matter in America today. Back when she was a young girl, children were always out playing and being active. Children would rather sit inside and play video games then do anything else nowadays. Since most children are not active they will spend most of their time watching television “every extra hour of TV they watch is associated with the consumption of an additional 167 calories”(423). Children aren’t just becoming inactive; they’re actually becoming more and more sick as time goes on establishing “diabetes and cancer, heart disease, asthma”(420). The four main points to this campaign are; giving parents the understanding to give their children healthy food not fast food. The second point states that the government is striving to replace unhealthy, junk foods in schools with healthier options, disregarding what the children will think of this change. The third part of the campaign is to show kids that being active and taking care of their health can be fun; it doesn’t have to demanding. The final point that Obama’s campaign states is that all families no matter what their financial situation is, should have the ability to get fresh and healthy food without having to spend a whole bunch of money to provide this kind of food for their family. I feel as though we should bring awareness of this problem to the children of today but I also feel as though we should address it in a way that these kids don’t feel bad about themselves because of the way they look. We must make sure we are being sensitive about the topic of obesity with those kids who are overweight. Kids can be very emotional and I feel that if we motivate them well enough they will begin to see the bigger picture of why they should make healthier choices and the parents also need to be playing their pat in their children’s lives as well. We should shed light of obesity not only to the kids but to the adults as well. I understand that it starts with the children so that they may grow up with what they were taught and share it with their kids in the future and so
