The IEP team considered not to select “Regular” or “Resource” as the level educational placement, but rejected the “Resource” educational placement as it was determined that a “Regular” level of educational placement was the least restrictive amount of time needed to accomplish the established goals. In addition to, the team considered not to take in consideration the frequency of services {45 mins 5 days per week for reading intervention to be served in the EC classroom and 2 days per week in the Reg Ed classroom for ELA support} but rejected this option as well to serve Dylan in the least restricted environment possible. Background statement: Heritage Valley Medical Center has had a wonderful reputation for providing excellent health care services to their community. Initially, their community was 80% Caucasian, 40% African American, and 5% Hispanic. However, in the last 5 years, the population has changed to more minorities and the whites have moved out to the suburbs. This caused the Center’s occupancy rate to go down 40% because many of their traditional, more affluent, private-pay patients had left the neighborhood. To bring in revenue, they campaigned to bring in more Medicaid patients.
The school argued that signing would become a “crutch” and limit a child’s ability to speak and interact with the hearing world (31). While Tressa viewed this as a positive program at the time, she later discovered the importance of sign and how it allowed Alandra to communicate to the fullest extent. After the family moved, Alandra began attending a residential school in Jacksonville. At this school, sign and speech were used in a “total communication” method. Here, Alandra was able to spend her entire day with deaf peers and learn how easy it was to communicate with them through sign language.

Attending an AA meeting was a new experience for me, although I had family and friends that had attended meetings they never told me what the meetings were like. Arriving to the meeting was different than what I expected. When looking at movies they would show dark rooms and sitting in a circle, completely different than what a real meeting is. But once I was there the lady in charge greeted me and introduced herself. I was surprised to see everybody being so friendly to each other.
