Being an agrarian and an engineer simultaneously, I realize the significance of sustainable development. Hence, I steered my educational goal in that direction, specifically, in clean energy technologies for transportation. The legacy of Michigan State University as an agricultural and technological university is the prime factor that encourages me to pursue a Ph.D. at MSU. Moreover, my research interests match exactly with the current research projects taking place in ‘Automotive Research Experiment Station’ and ‘Energy and Automotive Research Lab’ at Michigan State University. In particular, I find Professor Harold Schock’s works intended to reduce engine emissions, Assistant Professor Elisa Toulson’s works related to the application of alternate …show more content…
Taking support of more than a hundred families of our village, I was able to start a recreational club with a library having a collection of more than one thousand quality books, at our village. The successfully continuing semiannual blood donation camps, and weekend computer classes for rural people are the most appreciated social activities we have implemented during the initial stage of the club. Now we are taking the initiative to implement sustainable farming in our village. Furthermore, I am the coordinator and in-charge of Lions Club of Thopramkudy’s ‘Enlighten The Youth’ service activity, in which we are providing career guidance and free study materials to higher secondary students in rural areas. Moreover, the undergraduate and graduate project groups, in which I was the group leader, were perfect platforms to develop and prove my capabilities. The appreciations received for those projects are mainly due to the solidarity and diligence of our …show more content…
Along with that, as an agrarian I experienced the drastic reduction in agricultural production owing to global warming and climate change. I realize that all these issues have a common solution, sustainable development. Hence, sustainable development entrenched as a potential research topic in my mind. All these experiences together with the knowledge obtained from the article “Stabilization Wedges: Solving the Climate Problem for the Next 50 Years with Current Technologies”, which I read as part of my undergraduate seminar, taught me the significance of sustainable development. This realization helped me during my employment as a lecturer in one of the engineering colleges in my home state, Kerala. Through my lectures of the subjects Heat and Mass Transfer and Internal Combustion engines, I was able to convey the importance of sustainable development to students. Moreover, as the project coordinator of undergraduate students, I was able to motivate students to do projects related to clean energy technologies. Being a student from a rustic village with limited resources, the biggest difficulty I faced during the early days of my college life was the language of instruction, English. Comprehending the significance of language skills for a student to succeed,
