Microorganism - can cause illness and is hard to detect.

Oxidation - what happens when oxygen meets other substances.

Fungus - it is mold, yeast, and bacteria.

Desiccation - when something loses water and dries up.

If microorganisms get inside of the apple, they cause food decay and develop unpleasant odors, tastes, and textures.
Apples turn brown because of a chemical process called oxidation, this happens when oxygen interacts with another substance.
Fungus are microorganisms made up of mold, yeast, and/or bacteria.
Desiccation is the process whereby an apple loses moisture and starts to dry out.
The hypothesis is, out of all experiment materials including; aluminum foil, wax paper, plastic wrap, plastic …show more content…

The independent variables of this experiment are aluminum foil, plastic wrap, wax paper, and tightly sealed plastic bags.
As part of this experiment, apple quarters were wrapped in each of the four wrapping types (as well as no wrapping), placed in the refrigerator for six days with observations recorded each day of the experiment term. At day six of the experiment, the following results were collected:
The apple quarters wrapped in aluminum foil were browning and drying throughout and were sticking fairly well to the wrapping. They had an overall freshness ranking of four out of five, with one being the freshest and five being the least fresh.
The apple quarters wrapped in wax paper were browning some throughout, were very dry throughout, and were not sticking well to the wrapping. They had an overall freshness ranking of three out of five.
The apple quarters wrapped in plastic wrap were beginning to brown a bit, were still showing moist, and were sticking well to the wrapping. They had an overall freshness ranking of one out of
