Ms. Baniszewski’s only sources of income where from her small ironing business along with the biweekly check she received for looking after the Linekins sisters. I feel one explaining for Ms. Baniszewski’s abuse could lie in the family factors that increase the risk of child abuse. One of the main family factors that increases the likelihood of childhood neglect and abuse is living in poverty. The Baniszewski’s fit into this category as they lived in extreme poverty. In 2020 there were approximately 407,493 children in the United States foster care system, all under the age of 20 (“The AFCARS Report”). Foster care plays a big role in providing homes for children that experience abusive homelives, loss of parents or guardians, or severe financial hardship at home. However, being in foster care takes a toll on many children, due to both previous trauma, and trauma experienced in the foster care system. In order to understand the foster care system, one must research how the system works, how it affects childrens’ physical health, how it affects their mental health, and how being in foster care affects childrens’ chances of being successful.

Describe the actions to take if a child or young person alleges harm or abuse in line who policies and procedures of own setting. If a child alleges harm or abuse it is vital that the person that they tell are trained to deal with this effectively so that the child can be reassured that they have done the right thing and that the allegation can be acted upon. The school at which I work provides regular Safeguarding training to all staff which refers to policies such as Keeping Children Safe in Education, as well as providing practical advice to all staff in the event of a disclosure.

Today me and Slim walked to the bunkhouse together, just chattin’ about the little pup that Slim gave to Lennie, which is moreover a kind gesture of him, since we both know that it means a lot to Lennie. Now the big guy’s got something to pet. I hope this keeps him damn busy, so he won’t do anything stupid which will get us in trouble. Slim commented on the power of Lennie, when he’s buckin’ barley, saying that he almost killed his partner. I felt proud at that moment, and as proud as I am I told him that Lennie can do anything if it doesn’t require much thinking.

Can a history of childhood trauma have impact on happiness as an adult? I would conduct my study using the correlational method. My research would include children who have experienced trauma and see how they are coping. I would also interview adults who have experienced trauma as children and see how they are coping. I would listen for common threads, traits and experiences in their stories.
