Although the Middle Ages is most known as a dark period for Europe, progress was still made in the field of thinking. The rediscovery of Greek philosophy, the creation of universities, and crisis in the church directly led European societies to the Renaissance era, a time of rebirth.

Old greek texts were found in fragments, special people translated those pieces and allowed for other people to understand it. Around 1200 A.D, a group of people began to read old Greek writings about philosophy. Most of Aristotle's work were recovered. This group of people viewed the church's teachings more in an intellectual way than emotional way. Wealthy people and sometimes some from the growing middle class were able to get educated and learn new skills. Until then, only nobles and clergy were educated. The creation of universities allowed for people, wealthy only, to master different skills and skills that were not learned through life itself. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessman, all these jobs were learned by universities. They brought trade and shifted the economy because now there were more jobs so people could find someone from each profession if they need it. Universities taught people and these people could also become professors and teach others. Some became writers, publishers and wrote books for the illiterate people and or the people who could not afford for an education but still learn from these books. Universities also brought trade and commerce in cities by attracting people from other places in Europe that wanted to study in other universities. So the people that came would trade with the merchants in the city and thus moving the economy. Even though universities were for only a small percentage in society, it still impacted everyone’ lives because these people moved the economy, making other people’s lives better. Universities brought many benefits to people’s lives and the city, universities led people into the Renaissance era, a time of growth and success in economic, social, and political ways.
