Applying Theory to a Practice Problem Part 2 The practice problem that our hospital is facing now is increase in central line associated blood stream acquired infections (CLABSI) and catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) which we are trying to reduce or eliminate completely. This practice problem has been significant as the management is trying to eliminate it. This is done with the help of the nurses and doctors, especially the nurses because they do the maintenance of these lines and catheters. Handwashing and sterile procedures has been emphasized. Cleaning the catheters and dressing change for the central lines should be done with caution and care so that no infection should be introduced. These infections are preventable if proper procedures are followed. Nurses and doctors need to be vigilant in performing these procedures as this pertains to someone`s life. Inclusion of theory in this problem will help and try to eliminate it. This model was meant for the AACN certification examinations but has been working in other areas in nursing too. In 1995, the model was revised or redefined. This made changes to patient and nurses characteristics. In 1996, six major quality indicators were formed. In 2002, conceptual framework was birthed as the assumptions of the model were expanded pertaining the developing competencies and designing practice needed to care for critically ill patients. The model has been continuously revised to suit the present-day health care system and expand in areas like education and leadership/ administration as this model has helped some hospitals getting or maintaining their magnet
