Athens vs the Forest In Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare there are two settings, Athens and the forest where the four layers of ploy take place. First in Athens the royal wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. Second is the story of the four Athenian lovers (Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena) in the forest. Third is the conflict between fairies (Oberon and Titania) in the forest. Last is the effort of the “rude mechanicals” to put on a play.
Egeus is angry with his daughter so he goes to the king for a resolution. Egeus says to the king, "as she is mine, I may dispose of her, which shall be either to this gentlemen or to her death, according to our law immediately provided in that case." (********************) Egeus uses his power to try and threaten Hermia. However, Hermia chooses to betray her father. Hermia goes against her father's wishes and chooses to be with Lysander.
The climax is essentially a huge mess. Lysander becomes afflicted with the potion as well making him fall in love with Helena rather than his dear Hermia, Demetrius then also get “poisoned” and fall in love with Helena as well. Meanwhile, Helena is distraught as she believes
The play we read in class took place in Athens. So basically Theseus is the duke of Athens and is planning to marry a girl named Hippolyta which is the queen of the amazons and decided to make it awesome by planning a big festival for his marriage. Then egeus goes to Theseus with his daughter Hermia and the guy she likes Lysander but her suitor is Demetrius… Then egeus (the snitch/HErmias Father) told Theseus that Hermia doesn’t want to marry Demetrius but instead she wants to marry Lysander
The climax occurs when Lysander and Demetrius fight, and also Hermia and Helena fight. The falling action is when Puck leads Demetrius and Lysander in opposite directions. Hermia and Helena's fight seems to be irreparable. The deouement is when Oberon releases Titania from the spell.
From here the story begins. Hermia was supposed to marry Demetrius but loved Lysander too much to do so. That is why this is a play based on a love conflict. For the days following, Demetrius and Helena went into the woods in search of the two lovers
Leaving Hermia and Lysander to run away in the forest; Lysander then becomes a victim of misapplied magic and wakes up in love with Helena. Helena loves Demetrius, so she tells him of Hermia and Lysander's idea to run away, and Demetrius follows them, this is where the fairies get involved. “Before the time I did Lysander see / Seem'd Athens as a paradise to me.
Love is Difficult “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare is filled with many mixed emotions and lots of different themes. Although there are many different themes that readers can interpret, one that really stands out is that love is difficult. This theme is supported when Hermia 's father tries to tear Hermia and Lysander apart and they decide the best decision is to run away together. Also Oberon and Titania can 't stand each other and always get into arguments. The love potion throughout the play messed up Titania and Oberon’s true love.
This is what the lovers wanted at the beginning of the story; to marry the one they love. And with Theseus bringing final closure and order to what chaos occurred in the forest, the four lovers will get married along side Theseus and Hippolyta back at Athens. In the forest outside of Athens, chaos and order are present throughout the plot of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the forest, the fairies attempt to manipulate the love between the lovers and bring chaos upon them.
