For many years I have had a keen interest in all aspects of Midwifery, even more so since having my own children. From my personal experience of pregnancy and birth, I have appreciated how essential midwives are in preparing women for motherhood, by providing continuous support and guidance. I find the role of a Midwife fascinating and I believe it would be the most fulfilling and rewarding career for me to pursue. Midwives care for women during the course of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period but also build up a bond with the women and their families. I would find this a privilege to be part of. As two of my core qualities are to care and nurture, I feel I hold two of the vital characteristics to pursue a career within Midwifery. I have an exceedingly caring and compassionate nature. I am empathetic and I have good listening skills. Supporting and helping others is what I thrive to achieve. Since volunteering at the centre, I have had opportunities to interact with pregnant women, new mothers and their babies and also with health professionals. This has given me an insight into the roles of different health professionals, and the opportunity to observe part of the process of midwifery. This experience has increased my confidence as well as further developed my interpersonal and communication skills. I feel it also signifies the committed and caring approach of my nature. I have demonstrated that I am able to study and volunteer alongside raising three children. This is due to self-motivation, organisation skills and coordination of workload. This has prepared me well for moving onto a course in higher education and all the practical aspects that the course
