Chapter 16 from the book Mexican Migrants by Hellman talks about how he started seeing life differently when he met Francisco. When he met Francisco he noticed he was a very reserved man. The Diary of an Undocumented Immigrant is a biographical novel written by Ramon Perez and published in 1991. The narrative follows our storyteller and author Perez through his journey from a Zapotec village in Oaxaca, Mexico over the border, illegally of course (hence the title) into The United States where he experiences the many facets of American culture before returning to his home village two years later as a celebrated hero. Now, you might be wondering why that sentence was structured to deliberately include the word “hero,” it’s really quite simple. Having spent the past 237 pages shadowing Perez’s journey I feel compelled to see things from his standpoint.

Marcelo and Carola Suarez-Orozco, in their essay, “How Immigrants Became ‘Other’” explore the topic of immigration. They argue that Americans view many immigrants as criminals entering America with the hopes of stealing jobs and taking over, but that this viewpoint is not true. They claim that immigrants give up a lot to even have a chance to come into America and will take whatever they can get when they come. The Suarez-Orozco’s support their argument using authority figures to gain credibility as well as exemplification through immigrant stories.
Being an immigrant is difficult, therefore people are sacrificing their lives for freedom to have a better life. In her short story “The Trip”, Laila Lalami shows a dangerous trip for freedom. Also in his essay, “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant”, Jose Antonio Vargas explains his troubles with his immigrant life. Courage in both Murad and Vargas stories is a common theme. They both had the courage to do something important in, their life and might not survive.
Reflecting on my development as a first-generation immigrant, I can attribute a large portion of my characteristics and aspirations to my experiences growing up and to the role model whom I have admired, my mother. He recreated Virgin and Child Enthroned in 1305 through 1310, we see that there are many illusions and multiple viewpoints in the picture. Mary is very massive and big, Mary's hips were very wide and Madonna looks very realistic compared to Cimabue painting.
