In the start of the book we learned that the main character Miles Halter is going away to school. His mother hosts a party for all of this friends to see him before he goes away. He is disappointed with the outcome of the party because only a few weird kids came.they only went because they had nothing better to do. He didn 't have many friends at home before he went away. He was very excited to try to make new friends at school. When Miles arrives at Culvers Creek in Alabama he meets three very nice kids. Their names are Takumi, Alaska Young and Chip Martin. The kids gave Miles the nickname of pudge because he was so skinny. They introduce Miles to things such as drinking and smoking. While he sleeps he is rudely awakened by a group of people who tie him up. They take him somewhere and throw him in a lake. He makes it out somehow and has to walk back to his room and his briefs while soaking wet. The people who threw him in the lake are called the the weekend warriors and they only stay at boarding school during the week. His three new friends try to comfort him but he 's just kind of scared now. We learn that Miles has a little crush on Alaska. He even stays at the boarding school over Thanksgiving to try to get with her. He makes a mistake in doing this because he becomes very homesick. The friends try to do a crazy prank on the whole school but it takes a dark turn one Alaska tells the story of when her mom died of an aneurysm. It helps the other friends understand why Alaska has her peculiar personality. A couple days later Chip and Miles are in Alaska 's room drinking because they pulled off a great prank. Alaska and Miles make out a little and Miles thinks he falls in love with her. Well they 're doing this she gets a call from Jake her boyfriend. Before she leaves she says " to be continued". She then leaves in a panic. Miles then goes to bed and has some sweet dreams about that
