Looking for Alaska “Looking for Alaska” is a book written by John Green. It is a complex story about a boy called Miles. Miles is a sweet boy that is going through the phases that every teenager goes through, the phases that every person on this earth needs to go through to discover themselves. The head character in the book is portrayed as a bit of a lonely wolf. But in my believes I would claim Miles as a lost boy. He spends most of his time alone reading about famous author’s last words. He seems to want more from life, but he is convinced that he is not enough. He has not found his place in school therefore he only has a few friends, that he barely spends any time with. He is convinced that he is a lonely wolf that is custom to a life with limited contact with people. Applying to boarding school was a chance for Miles to evolve as person. Even though it is not mentioned in the book, I think Miles realized during his time reading about the authors that a life of knowledge is not based on the lectures in school, but your experiences in life. Suddenly Miles is not seeing the world is such a one-sided perspective. Looking at the world in a perspective that is filled with love and happiness changes Miles into a new person. The first love that you ever had is also the first heartbreak you will ever have. A feeling that you have lost something you love is horrifying. In Miles case it was even worse, he blamed himself for the loss of Alaska. Alaska was suspected of suicide while crashing her car while drunk- driving. Both Chip and Miles knew that Alaska had been feeling bad that she missed the deceased mother’s birthday and therefore was suicidal. Miles regret letting Alaska leave intoxicated and getting in the car. Personally, I can not imagine the pain that the first heartbreak, the horror and anxiety an experience such as that one would
