World war 1, also known as The Great War, was a global war in Europe that began on 28th July 1914 and ended on 11 November 1918. More than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, were mobilized in one of the largest wars in history. Over 9 million combatants and 7 million civilians died as a result of the war. The war was one of the deadliest conflicts in world history and has been a worldwide clash. Thirty-two countries were involved with two opposing alliances, the Allies and Central Power. The countries of the Allies include British Empire, France, Italy, Russia, Serbia, and the United States of America. Militarism means that the army and military forces are given a high profile by the government. Going in through the 20th century, the arm race between countries on spending on their military has started to begin, as the alliance system divided Europe into opposing groups. In 1914, Germany has experienced the largest increase in military force. Not only Germany, France also experienced an increased in their armies. There was a competition between Germany and Britain, as they both were similarly trying to boost their navy power. In 1906, the British introduced a battleship named the Dreadnought. As soon as the British introduced their battleship, the Germans soon followed their footsteps and introduced their own battleships. On the other hand, especially in Germany and Russia, the military began to have a greater role in influencing public policy. Increased militarism ultimately helped propel the outbreak of World War I. The militarism itself has changed the mood in Europe as each nation was prepared to fight for war. As the end result, all the countries of Europe built up their armies and navies and result shows that; Germany has 2,200,000 soldiers and 97 warships, Austria-Hungary has 810,000 soldiers and 28 warships, Italy has 750,000 soldiers and 36 warships, France has 1,125,000 soldiers and 62 warships, Russia has 1,200,000 soldiers and 30 warships, and Great Britain has 711,000 soldiers …show more content…
