Private. Kinolua Kelekolio enlisted under the United States Army as an Infantryman. At the ages of five to fourteen years old, I never considered the military was a optimum choice in my life. I didn’t even think the military was a option for me. Nonetheless my mind was changed for many reason’s.

When I was only five years old I’ve dreamt of being many things, like a pro golfer, or a pro surfer, lawyer, doctor or even a real estate agent. I was a short person weighing only 30 pounds and three feet and two inches. I was also bullied a lot mainly because I had big head that my body didn’t grow into. Many of the classes I received were suggestions from older friends, these classes that was suggested were Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps or J.R.O.T.C with First sergeant. Libre Lydell and Major. John Naki, Spanish with Mr. Ruiz and some I wished to receive such as Woodshop with Mr.Aomori and Robotics with Mr.Fuller. I had went to all my classes, but the one class that I will never forget is J.R.O.T.C seeing the Army instructor First sergeant. Libre was terrifying he carried himself with such bearing and anger as if he was told to be head of security for the president of the United States. The first thing 1st Sgt.Libre was do not be late for this class of you shall do twenty five push ups, I thought he was a liaison to hell itself knowing that the class before him was Ms.Hirai way below, near the bus terminal and J.R.O.T.C was at the zenith of the school. My years in J.R.O.T.C showed me who I really was though I never expected it the friends I’ve made became so close I considered them as my brothers and sisters. J.R.O.T.C also showed me what it was like to be a better citizens through service learning and military discipline. It showed me many career options and college options that the high school itself could not show me, although I found my new passion was to serve for a cause greater than
