Mindfulness Negative thinking is an important component of every type of mental health problem. It is important for mental health practitioners to stress the importance to think realistically and habitually in psychotherapeutic work and their own lives. Throughout the workshop, participants learned the importance of mind practices, mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and modern psychoanalysis (Symposium, 2016). The couple of learnings, a counselor in training could take out of the workshop would be mindfulness exercise and modern psychoanalysis. Mindfulness exercises could benefit individuals, who suffer from depression, stress, or negative thinking. The excerises consists of five steps: 1. Breathing 2. Imagination. 3. Continue this pattern until the feeling of relaxation is in the entire body. Then, imagine what it would be like to change those thoughts of negativity. After, the individual will become awareness of their body until the tension of the body is released. Once all of those components are met, one will begin meditation. As a school counselor, students will be facing numerous stresses through their four years in High School. The stresses are can be social, academic, sport teams, or even the college process. By implementing the excise, it will assist students to overcome stresses and to become mindful of themselves.
