The federal government needs to higher our minimum wage. The wage itself right now is too low for people in the Hawaiian Islands and people throughout the US. Our minimum wage that we have can't offer workers enough money to make a living off of. Since our wage is not keeping up with our economic system, the wage has had a big impact on US citizens in many different ways. It is affecting citizens in more negative ways, than positive ways. I personally think that the minimum wage will need to be raised higher to keep people off the streets. There are many people who become homeless because they couldn't keep up with their payments. The cost of living nowadays is outrageous. People who get paid minimum wage struggle to put food on the table,also causing people to have a better chance of becoming homeless. …show more content…

The federal minimum wage that was given to full time workers this past year in the United States, was $7.25 an hour. Picture yourself working at a job that pays you $7.25, say you work a full day of work for 8 hours, you get an average income of about $58 a day. What can you possibly do with $58? Activist and lawmakers from around the country said that “$7.25 does not offer workers enough to pay for life basics”(huffington post, 2016).For a minimum wage worker to live a regular life without struggling to keep up with his/her bills, he/she would have to work multiple jobs to help provide for the family.
The current minimum wage in Hawaii is $9.25. They are planning to do an increase on the minimum wage to $10.10 on January 1, 2018. (state of Hawaii wage standard).
