Major Deities Of Ouli In Hawaiian Myths

237 Words1 Pages
Ouli is a minor Hawaiian god who will kill anyone who prays to him and Ha’iaka is a major goddess of hula dancers, chant, sorcery and medicine. Both these deities have legends that were passed down through oral tradition and were not written down, so sources on them are limited. A major deity is praised above all others and have more relevant powers than minor deities. In Hawaiian myths, major gods and goddesses have immortality, unlike the minor gods and goddesses. This means that Ha’iaka will live forever while Ouli could die at any time (Difference between major and minor deities besides power level?). Ouli has executed many people just for praying and worshipping him and is not well liked by many Hawaiian people who believe in polytheism.
