Minority Recruitment Plan The Lebenon School District has been projected to have an estimated increase of 50% in their minority population during the next seven years. However, the teacher population consists of 91% non-minority teachers, 3% African Americans, and 6% Hispanics. The district has previously tried to hire minority teachers, but was met with disappointing results. The district has hired within the previous two years only five minority teachers, however, two minority teachers moved to a neighboring district due to higher salaries being available. To establish by category the available vacancies and to hire one Asian, African-American or Hispanic teacher for every two vacancies that arises among the faculty during the current school year. To attend minority teacher recruitment fairs, both in state and regional to identify at least five highly qualified non-minority candidates for every teaching vacancy in Lebenon School District, at least three of whom shall be interviewed in person during the hiring process. To utilize current minority staff to assist in identification of minority candidates. To access the various websites of the colleges and universities, especially those that have a significant minority population, to publicize available positions. The Lebenon School District will form a committee to visit colleges and universities that include minority staff. The Lebenon School District will provide an orientation program for new hires on the payroll process, budget process and the culture of the school system. The Lebenon School District will identify and recruit paraprofessionals to consider teaching as a career. The Lebenon School District will develop community contacts with civic, fraternal, and other organizations to help with networking opportunities.
