Can you Image living in America and be told you cannot love or be with an individual base on their skin color? For over centuries, America is considered the land of freedom and opportunities and also know as a melting pot, due to the mixtures of ethnic cultures in America. This place that is named the place of freedom and land of opportunities is the same place where people were and continue to be discriminated against and have laws based around race. “The American melting pot? Miscegenation laws in the united states” is one of the most interesting article that I have readied. The reason why I found this article most interesting due to being a true eye opener to learn about the discrimination individuals endure in America. Just to notice the place we personally call America is a country that the concept of ethnic played a massive part in the policies and laws that were created. Although, the constitution was set in place to allow have equal right and to have justice, there were still some states created laws and policies to prohibit affairs based on ethnic’s and genders . According to McLaughlin v Florida, the court ruled racial classification as invalid a Florida statue that allows more server penalties for cohabitation and adultery by interracial couples than same race pairs. Justice potter steward simply said it wasn’t possible for a state law to valid under our constitution.
