Miscommunication Between Parents In Antigone

In the Greek tragedy Antigone, both Creon and Antigone are challenged with being strong-willed individuals who are not capable of looking at the situation from another perspective. Neither of them are able compromise on what they believe is right. This causes great tragedy that affects many individuals. Miscommunication between parents and their children can connect to the type of relationship Antigone had with Creon.
In the play Antigone, Antigone insists that her brother, Polyneices, deserves a proper burial. Creon, a cold-hearted character, completely disagrees and states Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him; he shall lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and the scavenging dogs …show more content…

Giving a child harsh punishments can lead to great tragedy like the death of Haimon and Antigone. When a kid had no input on their set of rules they will find ways to get around them without being caught. This could include sneaking out after a set curfew or lying about their whereabouts. When doing these things, there can be very bad outcomes such as gettings seriously injured or even getting in bad situations where death is a factor. When a there is a strong relationship between parents and children, trust will be gained and you will be able to communicate feelings on certain topics were disagreement arrises. This can prevent tragic endings.
As you can see, in both situations of Creon vs. Antigone and Parent vs. child the horrible tragedies could have been avoided by having a conversation about the situation and coming to an agreement. Once you see eye to eye on a topic a decision could be made on how to best solve it. Both character failed to do this and ended up in a worse situation then they started
