The characters I choose that overcome hardship and misfortune are Ralph from Lord of the flies, Elie from Night, and Hazel from the movie The fault in our stars. They all go through hard times in each of these books and find a way to handle what they go through. Each of these books have a different conflict but all relating in how they overcome it and what makes the book how it is. If these conflicts were different the books setting would be different and the characters would’ve changed a bit.

In the book the book Lord of the flies there are many conflicts that were overcome and crossed Ralphs way. First of Ralph and the boys plane was destroyed when a bomb from the war struck them down. They landed in a island far away from nowhere. They …show more content…

He overcame the fact that they finally got rescued but emotionally he's still working on it. In the book it says “ Ralph looked at him dumbly. For a moment he had a fleeting picture of the strange glamour that had once invested the beaches. But the island was scorched up like dead wood-Simon was dead- and Jack had. . . The tears began to flow and sobs shook him. “ (Golding 202 )From the hardship he been through it was finally over and they can go home. Since ralph never showed his emotions during his time in the island because all he did was try to survive and get rescued he broke down. From the misfortune of all his tribe trading over to jack's tribe and getting his close friends killed purposely it was finally over.

Now in the book Night an autobiography Elie the main character faced a huge hardship which was that his family was sent off to concentration camp along with other families. When Elie finally arrived to the destination where they took them which was Auschwitz he was separated from his mother and sister and had to face this hardship with his father. He faced mistreatment and many deaths including his own father. Elie had to learn to keep having faith in order to overcome this hardship and
