Humans use instincts and details to judge others, but what happens when someone is misjudged? Misjudgment can have powerful consequences. This is shown in many pieces of literature. In LORD OF THE FLIES by William Golding and ROMEO AND JULIET by William Shakespeare, characters are misjudged and the reader learns about the consequences of this misjudgement. In ROMEO AND JULIET, Paris is misjudged and the author shows the catastrophic consequences. In the story, Romeo’s lover, Juliet, fakes her death to get away from an arranged marriage with Paris and be with Romeo. Both Paris and Romeo are distraught about this news and go to the cemetery to grieve Juliet’s death. Paris and Romeo meet each other and duel out of anger. They misjudged the situation and saw each other as threats. Both characters had nothing else to take their anger out on. Romeo was so blinded by his anger that he killed Paris. This is shown when Romeo says, “By urging me to fury. O, be gone!” (Rom. 5.1.64). Due to the anger of Romeo and Paris, neither of them had any patience. Piggy is a smart kid who ends up stranded on an island with other children. Piggy tries to create a civil environment but nobody listens. The boys would rather seek immediate benefits than be responsible and mature. This is shown when Jack says, “Bollocks to the rules! We’re strong – we hunt! If there’s a beast, we’ll hunt it down!
