One other intriguing factor which shows her living in denial is the fact that while she was standing in front of the town authorities she had a clock attached to her robe ticking and this shows she’s aware that time passed and that people were moving forward but still she remained stubborn and insensitive to her depressive situation.
Miss Emily Grieson standed as an emblem of the Old South. A lady whose praise and respectibility quickly declined as the years went by. Miss Emily’s mission was to slow down or completely stop the death of the old south.
Emily Grierson being the last hair of the Grierson Family chose to live in denial and delusion because she did not want to lose her subjectivity, meaning the idea she or the people had about her.
